Erin Turner born on July 12, 1987 was diagnosed with stage III malignant melanoma on April 3, 2008 at age 19. What started off as a small mole on the back of her neck, transformed into a long 6 year brawl with cancer. Erin was born in Las Cruces where she graduated from Mayfield High School, she accepted a soccer scholarship to Minnesota State Mankato. After being diagnosed she returned home and finished her studies at NMSU with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Tourist Management. Throughout her battle she became a certified personal trainer where her passion for health and fitness touched the lives of so many. With a constant, positive outlook in life and a sunny upbeat disposition, she faced all adversity head on. She discovered a passion for baking and creating healthy meals and a healthy lifestyle. Erin unflinchingly shared her story in order to empower other cancer survivors to fight and live life to the fullest every day. She continually talked on sun safety and the importance of personal health choices.
Erin passed away on March 13th, 2014 at the age of 26 in Houston Texas with her family by her side.
Erin Turner is the sister of DDCF members Kelsey Wright and Morgen Wright-Pfeifer and wife of Sean Tuner.
In honor of her fight and the outstanding doctors and research that MD Anderson provides Desert Devil CrossFit is donating money raised to MD Anderson Cancer Research in Erin’s name.
